Mother Parvati had kept this vow, to fulfill Shivaji's fast

The story of the vow

According to a legend of the Linga Purana, Mother Parvati, in her pre-birth, had ganja kinara on her Himalayas in order to have Lord Shankar as husband. In the meantime he had not eaten food. For many years he performed penance in this situation. His father was very sad to see this situation. One day Maharshi sent a proposal to marry Parvatiji from Lord Vishnu through Nardji. He accepted the proposal. But when Parvatiji learned of this, he was sad and started to moan.

He finally told his mother that he had made this vow to get Shivaji as her husband. But her father wants to marry her with Vishnu. Then Parvati's mother walked into the forest and sat in a cave to worship Lord Shiva. On the third day of the Bhadrava month, Mother made Shivling in the constellation and became immersed in praise of Bholanath. Pleased with his penance, Shivaji gave him a vision and accepted her as his wife.

It is believed that on this day the desires of the woman who perform these rites with diligence and sincerity are fulfilled. If a fortunate woman performs this fast then her couple's life will be happier. In many states of North India, on this day women wear henna and jula is swinging.
