People often smell the food to know if it is bad or worth eating. But now a sensor will do the job for you. The sensor will be integrated into the smartphone and the special thing is that it is very cheap and eco-friendly. This will also save food item waste.
In Britain, one in three consumers throw away packets of food items so close to their expiry date. There are 42 million tonnes of food that can be used to eat. To prevent this deterioration, a sensor has been developed at a college in London that can learn about the quality of packaged food known about dietary ammonia and trimethylamine. This sensor is called PEGS.
The cost of this sensor is only one and a half rupees. The data this sensor shares can be viewed on the smart phone. In order to use this sensor the user has to bring his or her phone to the sensor to see if the food is worth eating. The researchers have printed the carbon electrode in cellulose paper and prepared it. This sensor is eco-friendly and quite affordable.
