Facebook tightened its rules to prevent suicide

On World Suicide Prevention Day, Facebook has tightened its policies on self-harm, suicide and euthanasia, and announced the appointment of a health and wellness specialist in its Safety Policy team.

Facebook, Global Head of Safety Antigone Davis wrote in a blog post on Tuesday. This year we have begun conducting regular consultations with experts from around the world to discuss how difficult it is to deal with suicide and self-harm. They range from suicidal notes to the risk of grieving content online.

The social media giant has been working on suicide prevention measures for several years and is launching AI-based suicide prevention tools in 2017. Facebook Instagram has started putting self-harm pictures behind the 'sensitive screen' this year.
