Why Republic Day on January 26?
'If we do not eliminate inequality as quickly as we can, then a dangerous situation can arise': Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar
With India liberated on August 7, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar was appointed the country's first law and justice minister. On August 7, he was appointed chairman of the committee for drafting the country's constitution.
A committee was formed to draft five experts in the country. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar did a thorough study of the constitution of the three countries. On November 7, the 2-word constitution was drafted. Every year, on November 3, the Modi government has started celebrating it as Constitution Day.
Freedom fighters, led by Gandhiji, pledged their full state on January 3, and appealed to the citizens of the country to hoist the national flag immediately. It was only after this that the non-violent agitation from Dandikuchi and Quit India got caught.
India's August 8 Independence Day is also linked with the achievement of the British which many may not know. The date on which the Allied forces, including Britain, were defeated in World War II, was on August 7, 9. In celebration of its second anniversary, the British decided to declare India as Independence Day.
When our people got independence in January 3, our leaders were counting on keeping India's Independence Day in full swing. As the Indo-Pakistan split became certain, the British felt that waiting till 3, as planned, would only prolong the violence. The order of the British High Command was to give India and Pakistan independence in July or August. The British chose August 8 to play one more game after seeing August 8th.
After Independence, the leaders of India wanted to memorialize January 7 which they linked to Republic Day. Now Dr. Just look at and think about how Babasaheb Ambedkar made some memorable statements only after the Constitution was launched.
From the day of January 7, we will enter an atmosphere of contradiction or inconsistency. In the world of politics, equality will prevail but the principles of equality do not apply in the social and economic spheres. How long will we survive in such a contradictory environment? How long will we continue to deny the opportunity to create social and economic equality? If we continue with such a situation then there is the danger that we will move towards putting the political democratic system in danger or disaster. If we do not quickly eliminate the inequality prevailing in the country, then those who are victims of inequality will blow up the hard work of the Constituent Assembly which has created a democratic preservation constitution.
'I believe that the Constitution we have created is practical, balanced and can be effectively implemented in the long run. This constitution is also transformative and is capable of keeping the country strong in both peace and war. Yes, I can say that if the new constitution fails, it will not be the reason that our constitution was not properly formulated, but man did not have the tendency to obey it. There will be deceit in him. '
'Even though this is called the constitution of India, I do not believe there is any country of Indians in the world. We are yet to build an India like that. If we believe that we are a nation then it can be our illusion. How can a nation be divided into thousands of tribes? The sooner we realize that we are not a nation socially or psychologically, the better it will be for us. '
"It is an unprecedented pleasure that India got independence. But it should not be forgotten that after independence we have a huge responsibility. Now the British cannot be held responsible for anything bad happening in the country. We have to take responsibility for that. Given the fast-changing times, the danger of something going wrong will only increase.
'Our two main objectives of drafting the constitution have been (1) to maintain the political system of the democratic system in the country and (2) that whatever government comes to power, it should be governed by the citizens for economic democracy. (Government policies should not have the influence of corporate managers and corporate shareholders. General craftsmen, consumers, farmers, and the public should be at the center).
The old generation of Ranade, Agarkar, Tilak, Gokhale, Sir Firoz Shah Mehta and Surendranath has come to an end and now the era of Gandhiji has come. In both eras I see the difference. The generation of Ranade struggled to modernize India while in the Gandhi era, the country seems to be going back to ancient times.
Ranade and Tilak Gokhale used to innovate and take lessons based on experience. In the Gandhi era, all the voices of conscience have been relying on it. Older generation leaders took care to keep the organs well covered on their bodies, while in the Gandhi era all the organs were proud to be half worn.
I do not believe in encouraging the Gandhi era, they lead to a changing world and antiquity rather than dreaming of the future. This is an era in which people have stopped inheriting and thinking by accepting tight rules and principles. They cannot churn for their credit. '
