It is also believed that Lord Shiva burned Cupid at the beginning of the Holocaust. It is also believed that the devotee Prahlad was tortured during the Holocaust period on the occasion of Hiranyakaship. But by the grace of Lord Vishnu, Prahlad crossed all the difficulties.
On the final day of Holi, Hiranyakaship's sister Holika along with Prahlad sat in the fire. Holika had a special dress which Brahmaji gave her as a blessing. But as Holika sat in the fire, a strong wind blew and the garment fell on Prahlad. Due to this Holika was burnt and Prahlad survived. Since then, Holi is celebrated on the day of Pagan month of Purnima as the victory of religion over Adharma and the next day is celebrated with colors.
