India is currently going through the most important time of the digital revolution. A large portion of the country's population is now making digital payments. People are now using smartphones for things including banking, shopping, meeting, booking, business. A 70-year-old man living in a remote village of the country has been talking to his son in the city through a video call. India ranks second in the world in terms of internet usage. 4% of the country's population uses the internet, and this number is increasing day by day. The country's educational institutions are also now turning to online education. The reason behind all this being possible is the World Wide Web i.e. the Internet.
3 years have passed since the advent of internet in the country. The Internet has been changing our lives for the last two decades. We don't know when the internet became an integral part of our daily lives. None of this happened overnight then. Also, the current state of the Internet is not what it used to be. The situation in the country when the Internet first came out was also very interesting. We recently celebrated the 7th Independence Day of the country, with which 5 years have passed since the advent of internet in the country. Internet service was launched to the public on August 15. Although the Internet has been around in the country since the age of 16, it has been limited to research and education. The Internet has been available to the general public since the age of 18.
Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (VSNL) was the first to bring internet in the country. Until the age of 19, VSNL was the only internet provider. In the 19th year, the government allowed Internet distribution to private companies. If we talk about Google, it hasn't even started yet. In the year 19, Satyam Infoneway became the first private internet provider in the country. Today, there are more than six ISP companies in the country that deliver Internet to people's homes.
In the year 18, it took more than seven minutes to download a 1MB photo, because at that time the maximum speed of the internet was 18, and the price was huge. In the beginning the internet was very expensive, the speed was negligible. In the 19th year, the cheapest plan was for students at Rs. 500, with a speed of 7.5 mph. So there was only one plan for professional use. At Rs 5,000, you get a speed of 6.5 mph and that too for 20 hours only. Both plans had a 30-hour usage limit during the year.
Speaking of fixed connection, the cheapest plan cost Rs 2,50,000 and the speed was 7.5kbps. 10,00,000 lakh for a speed of 15kbps. If we talk about the most expensive plan, its price was around Rs. 30,000,000 lakhs. Today we get 1 GB high speed internet for just Rs. Compared to the speed we got 3 years ago, now we get 200 times more speed. The Internet in the country has made this progress during the last 3 years.
When the Internet came to the country in the year 19, the number of users was around 10,000. Five years later, in the year 2000, this number increased to 3 lakhs. 30 million people are using the internet in 2010 and 200 million at present. According to a report, by the year 203, 100 million people in the country will be using the Internet. With this, India will be number one in the world in terms of internet users. Reliance Jio has been a major contributor to the increase in internet usage in the country. The credit for making the internet cheap and high speed goes to Geo.
Speaking of the future, the country is currently preparing for Five G Internet. This service will also be launched soon. The Five G Internet will be the second digital revolution. In which many GB files can be downloaded within seconds. In the blink of an eye there will be work on the internet. At the same time, India is the largest market for the world's largest Internet companies, so they are also striving for the development and expansion of the Internet in the country.
