Siddhpur is one of the four major lakes of India, Narayan Sarovar (Kutch), Pampa Sarovar (South), Man Sarovar (Kailas) and Bindu Sarovar (Siddhpur, North Gujarat). People from all over India come here for Matrushraddha.
Siddhpur is the shrine of Matrugaya Shraddha. As the father is mourned in Gaya. Mahamuni Kapildev liberated his mother Devahuti by preaching Samkhya Gyan. Since then this motherhood has been glorified.
Katsayan Muni has said that shraddha of the mother in Matrugaya Tirtha Bindu Sarovar brings salvation to the mother as well as procreation and prosperity. While performing Matrugaya Shraddha in this lake, Matrudin is issued by donating 15 pinds.
According to a legend, Maharshi Kardam and mother Devahuti, who created the world thousands of years ago, performed rigorous penance on the banks of Saraswati for the longing for a son after nine daughters, due to which this region is also mentioned in the Puranas as Siddha Kshetra.
Lord Narayana was pleased to see the harsh penance of Kardam Rishi and Devahuti and was born in the womb of Mother Devahuti in Vardan which was further called the fifth incarnation of Lord Narayana.
Kapil Bhagwan saved the mother at an early age by teaching Samkhya Shastra to Mata Devahuti. Tears of joy welled up in the eyes of Mother Devahuti, who was fulfilled by the teachings of Lord Kapil, which dripped on the earth and became a lake called 'Harshabindu Sarovar' which later became known as Bindu Sarovar. Along with Mata Devahuti, Lord Kapil also rescued a maid named 'Alpa' so that 'Bildu Sarovar' became 'Alpa Sarovar' next to the place where Lord Kapil preached Samkhya Shastra to his mother became known as Gyanvatika.
According to a myth, Siddhpur has become known all over the world for Matrushraddha ever since Lord Gyan Parshuram donated Pind here to free himself from the debt of Matrutya at this Gyan Vatika place. Usually by donating Pind, the insatiable soul is satisfied, Moksha dies. It is understood that the son must be shaved during this Shraddha Tirtha ritual. According to the scriptures, mundan is a kind of sacrament.
The word Shraddha is derived from Shraddha. Shraddha which expresses the glory of Shraddha means to express faith towards parents and to be loyal to them forever. There are two types of Shraddha rituals. One is direct and the other is indirect ritual. Shraddha is performed by remembering the fathers by placing the sons in front of the Brahmin. When the fathers are invoked in an indirect ritual by lowering the fathers in their place, then only they are worshiped.
