Shankaracharyaji was amazed to see such a pathetic scene. He inquired about the past of this land and place to the surrounding villagers. The ashram of a great ascetic named Sringeri was reported to be there. Shankaracharyaji chose the land for a monastery and established the Sringeri monastery there in Hampi.

The Pandavas were traveling with Lord Krishna in search of a place of battle. On the way they were passing by a farm. The young son and father were renting water from a well. A poisonous snake bit his son and he died instantly. The father placed his son's corpse in the shade of a mango tree and began to work calmly. The father-in-law reported the incident to the daughter-in-law. The two washed their hands and mouths and kept eating on the corpse and ate. After observing the whole incident, Krishna said that this land is suitable for war.

The Pandavas asked, why?
