Why does the skin on the lips get wet?

Cold air dries out the skin of the lips in cold weather or when strong winds blow. The lips become dry and the skin begins to peel. This skin on the lips gets irritated when the lips are pulled while laughing or eating. There are cracks in it. Most people turn their tongue over when their lips are chapped, but if this happens, they should not turn their tongue over it or even wet their lips with saliva. Doing so makes the lips more chapped. Therefore, milk cream or Vaseline should be applied on such chapped or cracked lips.
