Bobby Deol, who made his Bollywood debut with 'Barsaat' (19), has played a variety of roles so far. Of course, over the course of a few years, his career took a turn for the worse. After this, in 2014, he made a makeover and returned to Bollywood and made a commendable attempt to get out of the mistake he had made in the past. When Bobby Deol wants to celebrate 5 years in Bollywood this year, let us know how much talent this Dharmendra-putra has in surviving in Bollywood.
* Made 3 films in 3 years, tell us your unforgettable experience.
Bobby Deol: I have been doing films for many years and every film gives a sweet memory. Yet when you ask me to recall a memory let me say that the day I faced the camera the day before can never be forgotten. The film was directed by Shekhar Kapoor and starring Twinkle Khanna (Twinkle as a child actor in the film 'Dharmaveer' - 13). The first day of the film went well as if the dream had come true. I shot for that film for 3 days. Shekhar Kapoor got a chance to direct 'Bandit Queen' (19). He had to choose between the film or one of us. Of course, there was a way for him to go to Hollywood, but my father Dharmendra (the producer of the film) did not push him.
* You came to 'Race-3' (2013) after doing a makeover, but if you take a look at the past, it didn't benefit you much.
Bobby Deol: As an actor at that time you need to be safe and without any fear. Think about it. This was the time when I thought of doing something different. At that time you also decide to follow the safe path. I cum-backed up after watching the climb. I thought I needed to take a chance in life. I became fearless and took the opportunity. During 'Race-3' I noticed that I had to work harder. I was really happy that I got the chance and I took advantage of it. OTT projects are a really good start to a new life. Now I began to believe that I had more to do than what I had done so far. I also thought that I needed to be able to come back even if I failed. This is the happiest moment of my life. I believe in sticking - surviving forever.
* Is there a time when it occurred to you that the two should work together?
Bobby Deol: One day I heard my son say to his mother, 'Why is Dad at home? Can't they go out and work like you? I felt like I had a trigger point in front of me.
* Your web show 'Ashram' got a lot of praise on MX Pair. How was the experience of this new medium in the 9th year of your career?
Bobby Deol: Shooting a web show is like shooting a movie. This is what you have to shoot for a five hour long movie. (Laughs). This is the best platform for new artists who want to showcase their talents.
* You are known as one of the so-called shy and reserve artists of Bollywood, but who made you speak in this industry?
Bobby Deol: I did a lot of films with Abbas-Mustan ('Stranger', 'Hamraj', 'Niqab') who consider me a younger brother. I have fond memories of working with them. Apart from her I feel very relaxed with Preity Zinta. I call him Pritam Singh. He is much older than me. She's one of my group of friends. I know he has studied criminal psychology and tells me that you are my case study. I reject his offer. (And he laughs) I suggested his name to Abbas-Mustan Bhai in 'Soldier' (19) and he signed Preity Zinta.
* Favoritism and nepotism have been hotly debated in Bollywood for the past few months. Are you part of such a film circle or camp? The reality is you come from a star-family?
Bobby Deol: I don't think I am part of any such camp or grew up among them. Applause is not our habit. Our family is far from this. My father has struggled his way into the film industry. He is the biggest example of an outsider coming to Bollywood. I am blessed that I am their son and part of this business. If that were true for the bite of nepotism, I would have to stay here.
* You followed your father and brother (Sunny Deol) into the industry. Will your sons make a career in movie?
Bobby Deol: My sons are Aryaman (18 years) and Dharam (18 years). My eldest son is very smart in teaching and he is a topper in his class and he has been selected in one of the top universities in America, he is studying business management. He still has a few years in which he can choose his career. My youngest son is in ninth grade. I have seen how competitive this industry has become in the last few years.
It is not easy for everyone to come here and survive. At this stage I want to give them a good education. So they can choose different career options.
