A replica of the same sphere is used as a tool to study the earth. Above it is a map of the world. The continents, the oceans, the names of important circles and the horizontal vertical lines are on it. These fabulous lines are called latitude and longitude.
The horizontal circular line in the center on the globe is called the equator. It passes through the center of the earth. The upper part is called the Northern Hemisphere and the lower part is called the Southern Hemisphere. The Northern Hemisphere has a horizontal dashed line called the Tropic of Cancer and the Southern Hemisphere has a horizontal dashed line called the Capricorn.
Since the earth is tilted at an angle of 4.5 degrees, the sun's direct rays fall between the equator and Capricorn on both sides of the equator.
The intersecting line above the equator on the globe is called the North Pole and the intersecting line to the south is called the South Pole.
