Do you know the price of a meme?

If there is one thing that goes viral most after the rumors of thieves on social platforms including Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp, it is a meme. Many call it 'meme' according to the spelling, but according to all authentic dictionaries it is pronounced 'meme' correctly. The term originally came from Richard Dawkins' book 'The Selfish Gene' in the year 19. The author used the Greek word mimeme (mimeme ?!) which means, 'that witch is imitated' which means a copy of someone (thing, person, idea, etc.). The word Mimeme is abbreviated to mm. However this 'imitation' lasted longer after the advent of the internet. Especially in the last few years. Anyone on the Internet could create a new photo by sarcastically or humorously modifying the original word-picture on any other person, thing, place, position, idea, etc.

The reason for talking is that a few days ago, the original photo of a 'very famous' (say 'viral', Bapaliya!) Meme sold for around Rs 3 crore! Known as 'Disaster Girl', the meme features a 9-year-old girl laughing and a house burning down behind her. The original photo, which was purchased by a user using cryptocurrency, was taken in 2007. The house of a 9-year-old girl named Joey Ruth in Washington was on fire. (The fire was under control so there was definitely tension!) Ruth's apprentice photographer dad asked her to look in front of him and clicked! The photo was put in a competition in 2006 and then edited and circulated on the internet. "I will pay off my study loan first and donate the rest," said Joey Ruth.
