Such demand has led to an increase in consumption, especially of instant coffee, market sources said. Recently, however, as the second wave of Corona at home and abroad has subsided and the situation has returned to normal, the demand for coffee in the coffee market is expected to pick up.
Meanwhile, the recently released figures of the coffee export sector from the country, however, have been encouraging, market sources said. The total coffee exports from the country in the first six months of the current fiscal year 2021 to January to June have shown indications of an increase of about 15 to 18 per cent. With the recent decline in corona infestation in Europe and the normalization of conditions there, India's coffee exports to Europe are expected to pick up again. In August and September, shipments of coffee exports are expected to pick up, according to world market experts. In April, May and June this year, coffee exports increased by about 15 to 18 per cent to over 1 lakh tonnes. Which was around 6,000 tonnes during the same period last year.
However, in the six months from January to June this year, demand for Italian coffee from Italy and Germany was lower than expected. Exports of Indian coffee to Italy in the first six months of this year have been around 4,500 to 700 tonnes, up from around 4,000 tonnes in the same period last year. Coffee exports from India to Germany also declined in the first six months of this year to around 15,200 to 200 tonnes from about 12,500 to 700 tonnes in the January-June period last year.
Meanwhile, the good news for India from the coffee export market is that India's demand for coffee in Libya, Egypt v. There are signs that the country is moving towards North African countries. Exports of Indian coffee to Libya have increased by about 3 to 4 per cent this year, according to export market sources.
