Thanjavur was an ancient kingdom of the seventh century. The six-storey tower and Durbar Hall of Thanjavur Palace, built by the Maratha rulers in 160 AD, are worth seeing. The walls of Durbar Hall are known for the occasional paintings of Ramayana and the magnificent corridors. The size can be seen from the top of the tower.
