Expensive spice used in sweets: Saffron

Saffron is a popular spice in sweets, confectionery and ice cream. Saffron increases the sodium by giving the thing an orange color. It is also very expensive.

Saffron is a vegetable. Similarly, if you observe the flower, you will see hay threads between the petals. Saffron is the flower stalk that grows on plants. These threads are dried and sold in the market. It is difficult to separate the threads from the flowers in saffron. When we collect weeds from millions of flowers, we get barely a kilo of saffron. And loses weight when dried. It is expensive to get after a lot of hard work. Saffron is cultivated in many countries. Saffron is a cold region vegetable.

Saffron has a white leaf layer around it to protect the green leaf. The leaves are very thin. Saffron flowers are large and dark pink (purple) in color. The plants are about a foot tall. There are three orange threads between the flowers.
