No goodness anywhere.

Brihatparasharsmriti

No matter how good a man may be in learning, if he does not have humility, discretion and good manners, he is not respected in society. No matter how much knowledge there is, if there is no character, it is not respected anywhere. That is why there is a saying in Sanskrit that Vidya adorns with humility. That is why pedagogy says that character building should be given equal importance along with school-college education.

However, it is rarely the case that even a scholar and a pundit cannot earn enough money, or that a man, despite understanding all the virtues, is lying for his own self-interest.

Education and character are two different fields. But they complement each other. Without one the other is incomplete. Another important difference is that a learned man, as mentioned above, sometimes resorted to untruths, but a man of good character never lies, nor does he move or waver from his title or position.

From this it is understood that mere knowledge - mere knowledge is not enough to make a person Tavangar or Satvadi. But modesty or character with knowledge helps in shaping man's virtue, virtue and good fortune.
